Paying with crypto gets you 5% off your order. If you have never bought Bitcoin before, this guide walks you through it with Cash App in about five minutes. No prior crypto experience needed.
What you will need
- The Cash App on your phone (iOS or Android)
- A debit card or Cash App balance
- About 5 minutes, plus ID verification the first time
Step 1 — Set up Cash App and verify your ID
Download Cash App and create your account. Before your first Bitcoin purchase, Cash App requires you to verify your identity — usually your name, date of birth, and the last four digits of your SSN. This is a one-time step and normally takes just a few minutes.
Step 2 — Buy Bitcoin
- Tap the Money tab (or the Bitcoin icon) on the Cash App home screen.
- Select Bitcoin.
- Tap Buy and choose an amount. You can start with as little as $1.
- Confirm with your PIN or Touch/Face ID.
Buy slightly more than your order total so network fees are covered. Bitcoin’s price moves, so a small buffer avoids coming up short.
Step 3 — Send the Bitcoin to complete your order
At checkout you will be given a Bitcoin address (and usually a QR code). In Cash App:
- Go to Bitcoin and tap the airplane / Send icon.
- Enter the amount, then tap Send.
- Tap the QR scanner in the top-left to scan our checkout QR code, or paste the Bitcoin address manually.
- Double-check the address, then confirm.
Withdrawal speeds, fees and minimums
Cash App offers three sending speeds. Fees are the Bitcoin network fee plus a small Cash App fee:
| Speed | Arrives in | Extra fee | Minimum |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | Slowest | Network fee only | 0.001 BTC |
| Rush | ~2 hours or less | Up to $2 | 0.00005 BTC |
| Priority | ~10 minutes or less | Up to $3 | 0.00005 BTC |
Tip: Standard requires a 0.001 BTC minimum, which is often more than a typical order. For most orders, choose Rush or Priority — the minimum is far lower and your order confirms faster. If Lightning Network is supported, sending is fast and free.
Important things to know
- Bitcoin transactions cannot be reversed. Always verify the address before sending.
- Cash App supports Bitcoin only — it does not sell other cryptocurrencies.
- Bitcoin’s value fluctuates. Only buy what you intend to spend on your order.
- Send the full amount shown at checkout so your order is not left underpaid.
Prefer a different app?
Cash App is the quickest option for most people in the US, but you can use any exchange or wallet that lets you send Bitcoin — such as Coinbase, Kraken, or Strike. The process is the same: buy Bitcoin, then send it to the address shown at checkout.
